Published - 23 Jul 2016 Author: Andrew Luke Tan In the company of accomplished local competitors and defending champions, An Lure International’s field angler, J. Pond of Thailand, took line honours to beat the competition to win Fishing Paradise @ Orto’s Lure Master 3 fishing tournament, held on Saturday 16th July 2016. Without having home ground advantage, the plucky 19 year old Thai, had just one day’s practice session to work out his winning strategy. On competition day, Pond opted to use An Lure's Prew 75 Sinking Pencil Bait, over top water lures to target the Amazon species of fish that are stocked in Fishing Paradise’s pond. He had figured during practice day that whilst this species could be induced to take topwater lures during a feeding frenzy over bread, the fish might have learnt from it and become cautious. Pond wanted to use a lure that would sink and flutter down at a pace that the fish would mistake for sinking fish feed as he felt he had a better chance of inducing a strike. In addition, he felt that the Prew 75 was small but heavy enough to cast the distance needed to put him in the strike zone during the feeding frenzy. Pond’s gumption and choice of lure colour to match as closely to the fish feed, ended up paying off during competition day with him landing 2 Pacu and 1 Rohu. He also opted to use Keitech's Swing Impact Swim Bait, which bagged him 5 sea bass in rapid succession during the early half of the competition. In total, the 8 fish landed and the points garnered from the casting accuracy competition, put Pond in an unassailable position to take home the top prize of $1288 in cash.
