The difference in power (i.e. the amount of effort and strength that is required to flex a section of the blank) between the butt and tip section is greater than a slower taper blank. This gives the moderate taper blank more lifting and casting power and the ability to operate over a wider range of weight ranges that they are designed to cast and lift.
Unlike a slower tapered blank, the moderate taper blank load easily for excellent line delivery and have plenty of power for longer casting and fish stopping ability.
In general, a moderate tapered blank that is designed with a fast or extra fast action will generate great line speed and distance for the skilled caster.
Note to reader – CTS uses the following rate classifications, slow, moderate, fast and extra fast, to describe the Taper of their blanks.
